Republican Rifles - Spanish Civil War (1936-1939)
The pictures were supplied by
"Tiledude" who owns the rifle pictured
here.  Looks like a fairly ordinary
Model 1916 except for the inscription
on the bridge.
From 1936-1939 or so, Model 1916 rifles were produced by the Republicans in Barcelona.  I don't have much actual information on this arsenal or
arsenals, but what I have is on the
Spanish Arsenals page:

This receiver crest with the Catalan spelling of "Cataluna" is

As far as I know, there are five different receiver crests on these rifles.  I don't know if these were all made at a single arsenal with a single sequence of
serial numbers or not.  Most of the serial numbers are in the same AxxxxR format, where the x's are numbers.  Two rifles been reported with blank
receivers; I assume the receiver crests were ground off.

1)  INDUSTRIAS DE GUERRA DE CATALUNA followed by the year of manufacture, either 1937 or 1938, one reported without a year designation
2)  INDUSTRIAS DE GUERRA DE CATALUNYA 1937 (Catalan spelling of Cataluna)
3)  GENERALITAT DE CATALUNA COMMISSIO DE L'INDUSTRIA DE GUERRA 1938
4)  SUBSECRETARIA DE ARMAMENTO CATALUNYA 1938 (Catalan spelling of Cataluna)
5)  SUBSECRETARIA DE ARMAMENTO 1938
